There are ants in my plants

Actually, they are not ants. I just thought that sounded funny. Nope...they are teeny, tiny bugs and they are living in my orchid plant. They are so small that 10 of them could fit on the head of a pin. Maybe more.

How can I see them, you ask? Well, they are numerous. And they are white against the dark soil. And they are very active. And quite paranoid. All I need to do is shout, "Hi, bugs!!" to the soil and they start scurrying all over the place.

I'm trying to figure out what to do. I don't really want to get rid of my orchid. Not that it's flowering or anything, I have long since given up on that. But, no matter...I simply bought myself a lovely silk orchid flower from Restoration Hardware, stuck it in the soil and voila - lovely flowering orchid. The orchid brings a "certain something" to that bookcase and I just don't want to take the time to find another accessory that has that "certain something". It takes me about a million years to make decorating decisions and I'm having a difficult enough time contemplating new couches.

So, the bugs look comfortable. They don't act like they are going to take over the house. The orchid is the only houseplant we own, so they are not going to try and infest ... what ... the tree painting? Bowl of plastic fruit? No, there is pretty much no place else for them to go. So they have their own tiny little Who-ville set up there and I don't think I'll disturb them. Unless they grow bigger. Then, I'll probably need to take action.

Oh, and here's an ironing update (thanks for asking)
4 pants
8 shirts
1 dress
...have not even made a dent in it. Much more ironing tomorrow. Drudgery. I might need to add wine for some fun.

I think it's nice that you're letting the little bugs have their own space.
I am taking a similar approach to my one plant at work- but it's maily due to laziness.

Okay it's too funny that you had to resort to a silk flower...I bet if you just called a nursery they could give you some advice on the bugs. good luck.

I love that shelf-thingy.

And I don't know about the white pants either, but I would like some nice summery clothes. (Well, not anymore.)
